Apple is heavily pushing ‘Brutal’, the new single from Olivia Rodrigo, and using TikTok and the Procreate apps as the fora for a lot of its marketing activities.
Users need to have the Procreate app installed in order to take part. It is a tool for sketching and painting which costs $9.99 (and there are also in-app purchase options). To get the most out it, you will also need to have an Apple Pencil which will cost you a further $89.
If you have the budget and the technology then you can start making your own #BrutalMasks. The masks will overlay on your own face when the camera is in selfie mode and will move as your own face moves.
It is partly being positioned as an educational strand by Apple – using TikTok to give capsule tutorials to get the most of its devices and the assorted apps that can be used on it.
It was being pushed through Apple’s official TikTok account, which has 756k followers, as opposed to Apple Music’s official TikTok account, which has 279k followers. It is clearly a major promotional undertaking for the company and is designed to reach far beyond its music base.
Rodrigo also posted a short clip about it all on her TikTok account which has a slightly bigger reach than Apple’s account. (She has 9.9m followers.)
