Finneas might be better known as the brother of Billie Eilish as well as her producer and songwriting partner – but he is also an artist in his own right.
And like an artist in his own right, he must surely be no stranger to brand partnerships. He is now working with guitar brand Fender to promote its American Acoustasonic Jazzmaster – a “hybrid” (i.e. acoustic and electric) guitar. Think of it like the two sets Bob Dylan played each night on his 1966 world tour.
Obviously you can’t just allow a facsimile of your signature to be pressed onto the pick guard on every guitar manufactured and leave it at that: these days in the high turnover world of brand partnerships you have to engage.
“Engagement” here means setting up a hotline for people to leave a message for Finneas – asking him questions about playing the guitar, crafting a signature sound, that kind of thing.
A select number of the questions that are deemed the best will be answered directly by Finneas himself (while Fender’s team will try and answer the others).
You will have to give your name, email address and phone number to be in with a chance of Finneas being the one to call with an answer to your question.
“The American Acoustasonic® Jazzmaster can truly change your whole sound if you know how to use it,” said Finneas in a press release that was, frankly, riddled with ® symbols. “I’ve taken it with me on tour, in the studio, and on shows like SNL. So, here’s your chance. Hit me with a question, and we’ll talk about what this guitar can do for you and the sounds it can unlock.”
Of course, given it is a hotline and there will be the inevitable “high volumes” of calls, you might have to wait to get through (but please hold as your call is important to us). So how about some hold music while you wait? But what’s this? The hold music is actually ‘What They’ll Say About Us’, the new single from… Finneas? Why, yes it is. Incredible.
